CNN plans to acquire Mashable

CNN international news agency, which is a subsidiary of Time Warner, is reportedly in negotiations to acquire a site leading technology and social media, Mashable.

This news comes from Felix Salmon writing for Reuters. According to Salmon who received information from reliable sources, the acquisition will be announced on CNN on Mashable today (03/13/2012).

But on Monday (3/12/2012), CNN officials denied that the announcement will be made on Tuesday. CNN executives are still reluctant to comment on this acquisition process. So also with the Mashable.
Executive Editor Adam Ostrow Mashable, just with me respond to the news-like information to be shared Salmon acquisition via Facebook.

If the official CNN later acquired Mashable, this will be a big question about the interest of CNN on the social media industry and start-up. Because, at the end of last year, CNN has acquired Zite, a company that makes iPad applications with a value of about 20 million to 25 million U.S. dollars.

As for the acquisition of Mashable, CNN reportedly had to spend up to 200 million U.S. dollars or about Rp 1.8 trillion.

The close connection between CNN and Mashable have seen of the content from Mashable that often appears on CNN. Later, co-founder of Mashable, Pete Cashmore, often become a regular guest speaker for the event on CNN technology.

Mashable itself was launched by Cashmore at his home located in Aberdeen, Scotland, in July 2005.

Today, Mashable is headquartered in Palo AltoCalifornia. Sites that have the slogan is The Social Media Guide, claimed that page view they have reached 50 million per month, has 20 million unique visitors and 4 million followers on social networking Twitter.
